About Us

The American Institute of Hispanic Literary Studies (AIHLS), founded in 2020 under the initiative of several American scholars from a handful of western universities, is a private institution dedicated to the study of literature originally produced in Spanish, regardless of their authors' nationality.

Fully aware of the deep and vast richness of Hispanic and Latin American literature, our group attempts to provide easy to digest scholarship on the current literary landscape where modern works are being published, for our members' enrichment and use in their academic activities.

Created during the uncertain period of the COVID-19 pandemic as a resource to deepen our understanding about the multifold nuances of this rich and noble language while personal meetings and lectures were impossible to carry out, today we organize biennial symposiums with literary guests from Spain and Latin America. Native Spanish speaking authors and scholars are invited to bring us their knowledge, experience, and persona perspectives from which our members can get much closer exposure to their work and idiosyncrasies.

As a private society, membership is by invitation only. Symposium attendance, access to presentation materials along with scholar works derived from each convention are only available to registered members. See the "Sing In" page for more information regarding membership.
