Membership to the American Institute of Hispanic Literary Studies is by invitation only. Candidates are nominated to the AIHLS solely by existing members. Membership is considered based on several criteria, including academic trajectory, connection with the literary world, independent contributions to the study of Hispanic literature, geographical location, etc.

Membership to AIHLS grants attendance our biennial symposiums, access to all materials presented during symposiums and any further scholarly works produced by other members. Members are also encouraged to author and present their academic works to the AIHLS.
